Three brother gods Odin, Vili, and Ve made Midgard (the
world where we live). The three brothers
did this by killing a giant called Ymir and using his skin to create the world
we now live in. His bones formed the
mountains, his blood the streams and seas, and his hair became the plants. And the creatures that feasted on his remains
were the Dwarfs who created great cites below the earth. And lastly the gods placed all of Midgard
within Ymir’s skull, and this became the sky.
But how to separate the sky from the land? Odin (father of thor) reached
into the earth and pulled out four Dwarves and threw each one in a key directions so that they could hold up the
sky for eternity. Dwarfs Norðri, Suðri,
Austri and Vestri became North, South, East, and West.
